Our history in Baildon

Founded in 1945, Baildon Orchestra has been bringing local musicians together in Baildon and surrounding areas for decades. We celebrate a rich heritage rooted in community, camaraderie, and the pure joy of orchestral playing.

Making music since 1945

Baildon Orchestra has been bringing local musicians together for more than eight decades. That heritage matters — but so does keeping the orchestra friendly, relaxed and open to new people.

The orchestra has changed and evolved over the years, but the idea at its heart has remained the same: bringing people together to enjoy playing music.

Today, we continue that tradition with regular Thursday evening rehearsals, a large and varied music library and a welcoming approach to making music together.

The main thing is simple: come along, pick up your instrument and enjoy playing with other people.

Playing for the pleasure of music

Unlike many ensembles that focus exclusively on preparing for high-pressure public concerts, our primary purpose has always been the pleasure of making music together.

Our rehearsals offer a relaxed, pressure-free environment where members can explore diverse pieces, hone their musicianship, and simply enjoy playing.

One half of the evening is usually devoted to playing a symphony and the other half to lighter music.  This is a format which provides excellent opportunities to improve sight reading.

A warm community and social interval

A cornerstone of our traditions is the weekly social interval. Halfway through rehearsal, musicians put down their bows and instruments to catch up over a cup of tea and a biscuit (or two). It is this friendly, supportive atmosphere that keeps our members playing together year after year.

"Playing with Baildon Orchestra is the highlight of my week. There is no pressure, just wonderful music, warm friendship, and a genuine passion for playing together."
